Tile Roof Repair and Replacement in Tucson

Tile is everywhere in Tucson, and for good reason. But the tile is not what keeps the water out. The underlayment beneath it does, and after two decades of desert heat it gets brittle and starts to leak. Canyon Roofing specializes in tile roof repair and underlayment replacement.

Tile roof services

  • Cracked and broken tile replacement, with color-matched tiles wherever possible.
  • Underlayment replacement (tile lift and re-lay): we carefully remove your existing tiles, install new high-temperature underlayment and flashing, and reinstall the good tiles.
  • Ridge, hip and rake repairs, re-mortaring, bird stops, and leaks at valleys and roof-to-wall flashing.
  • Complete tile roof replacement with new concrete or clay tile.

Why tile roofs leak in the desert

  • Older felt underlayment dries out, cracks and tears in Tucson's heat. Once it fails, water that gets under the tile during a monsoon storm goes straight to the deck.
  • Foot traffic from satellite installers, solar crews and pest control can crack tiles. Debris builds up in valleys and blocks drainage.
  • Because the damage is hidden under the tile, a professional inspection is the only way to know the real condition of the roof.

Tile Roofing FAQ

Can you reuse my existing roof tiles?

Usually, yes. Concrete and clay tiles often outlast the underlayment beneath them. During an underlayment replacement we remove, stack and reinstall your existing tiles, replacing only the broken ones.

How do I know if my tile roof underlayment is failing?

Common signs include leaks during heavy rain, ceiling stains, and a roof that is 20 or more years old. Our inspector can lift a few tiles to check the underlayment and will show you photos.
